“Love does not consume us, it transforms
us”. So says Jay Ross in the poem “Embers of Love”
appearing side by side in English and Spanish in his new book Being
Love recently released through Indian Bay Press. Both
the English and Spanish version of “Embers of Love”
appeared in the July 2005 issue of Poesia.
This collection of works by Ross focuses on Love
as a romantic experience, (“How
sweet this woman who steps from my dreams into my life”)
a philosophical notion, (“I
will keep the warmth of love alive within me and never grow cold”)
a spiritual quest (“I move within
your Sacred Space, and you move within Mine”)
and as pure energy (“Being one
Being, we reflect; we mirror who we are... We Are Love.”).
According to Ross, these are not various types of love, but aspects
of the same energy; the same Love. Says Jay “there is only
one energy in the universe, and that energy is Love. Everything
else is variations and spin-offs of that energy.”
Obvious in many of the poems is Jay’s deep
love for his muse now his wife. (“Dabne
is this source of inspiration in my life, and I can only hope one
day my muse will be my wife”). Shortly after
reciting these words from his poem “Proposal to My Muse”,
Jay married his muse. “She has helped me find love within
my self. Now I can find it any where I look.” “It’s
much easier to speak and write of love when that is what you feel.”
Patricia Anez is the translator for this collection.
Patricia was born and raised in Bolivia. Being a native Spanish
speaker and a lover of poetry made her ideal for this task. Patricia
has lovingly worked to translate not just the words of the poems,
but the essence of Jay’s works.
Being Love is Volume One
of what Ross plans as a series of books under the “JaySpeaks”
umbrella. Ross plans, with this series, to share with the word what
he most feels needs to be shared, LOVE. “It’s not that
these things have never been said before, but some things need to
be rephrased and repeated time and again. It’s just became
my turn now.”
Indian
Bay Press released Being Love
on December 1, 2005 at a celebration in Fayetteville Arkansas. Those
in attendance were thrilled with the oral presentations of the author
as he read from this book of poetry as well as from his newer works.
